(BASREP will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2009)

BASREP participants are sure to enjoy our wonderful, weird and wacky week full of super science, oeey-gooey experiments!  From churning our own butter, to creating cool projects such as cauldron bubbles, it is bound to not only be an educational session, but an entertaining one, as well.  We will also look forward to a fascinating visit from the "Mad Science” program, which will present “Crazy Chemistry,” on Tuesday, June 30th.  The presenters will encourage the children to participate in some extremely exciting experiments!

Week # 2  Everyday is a  Holiday at BASREP

July 6, 2009-July 10, 2009

Each day, BASREP will hold a festive and fully themed event.  “Birthday Day” starts the week off with a bang, on Monday, July 6th!  Everyone will celebrate their own birthdays with party favors, sweet treats, and a special face painting session, from 2-4 P.M.  On Tuesday, July 7th, Halloween is going to be done in BASREP style!  An array of delicious snacks, costume contests (complete with prizes), and trick or treating games are just a few awesome events planned for this day!  Wednesday, July 8th will feature a Christmas Celebration, filled with games, prizes, and a festive visit from Santa himself!  On Thursday, July 9th, let’s talk “turkey” projects!  Participants will make many artistic items, which are associated with Thanksgiving!  Rounding out this holiday themed week is Friday, July 10th’s “Easter in the Summer,” which will let children participate in a wide variety of events such as bunny hops, candy-filled Easter egg hunts, and basket weaving.

Week # 3  Ocean Waves of Fun

July 13, 2009-July 17, 2009

BASREP members will have the opportunity to learn about marine life and other elements in the ocean, throughout this aquatic related week.  We’ll learn about the different creature’s significance in the sea, along with the benefits of underwater plants.  But who says fish have to only be in the ocean?  They can also be a part of the art world!  We’ll design fish jewelry and other artistic projects to celebrate the sea.  In addition, Project Oceanology, from Groton, will be coming to the program, on Wednesday, July 15th, with an awesome hands on exhibit!

Week # 4  A Bug’s Life

July 20, 2009-July 24, 2009

We are definitely going to have a brilliantly buggy time, during this insect themed week!  The participants will be delighted to view insects, living in their natural habitat, while learning about certain bugs’ beneficial contributions to the planet.  Our friends from “Mad Science” will return, on Friday, July 24th, to help us make our very own buggers, with great supplies!  In addition, we’ll have a terrific time making unique bug catchers and participants will even have the opportunity to bake an edible bug (no real insects will be put in the snacks)!

Week # 5  Reduce, Recycle and Reuse

July 27, 2009-July 31, 2009

Being green is the way to go, at BASREP!  During this earth-friendly week, we will be viewing informative, ecological films, which shall present the children with important facts relating to global warming, renewable energy, and other forms of conservation.  Also, the children will have the opportunity to see how colorful ties can be made out of plain old car tires, and how basic bottles can be transformed into fleece fabrics.  To complete this environmentally sound session, the program will be visited, on Tuesday, July 28th, by Dennis Waring, who will instruct us on creating a box banjo.  Mr. Waring makes beautiful music from basic rubbish, which proves the old saying “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

Week # 6  Greenhouse Growers & Rainforest Ramblers

August 3, 2009-August 7, 2009

From BASREP’s very own wilderness at Korn School, to Africa’s rainforest, our members will learn about a variety of living creatures and discover their value in nature.  Children will have hands on fun, while toiling the soil and growing potted green beans/plants.  In addition, on Thursday, August 6th,  “The Rainforest Reptile Show” will enhance each participant’s knowledge of the rainforest.  During this exhibition, we will meet a lizard, a boa, a “white” alligator, and a tortoise.  Children may even pose with the critters, if they choose!

Week # 7  Kick It Up With Cathy

August 10, 2009-August 14, 2009

During this week, staff and students will be cooking and conjuring up a multitude of unique items, starting with a visit, on Monday, August 10th, from Laurie Lynne’s Creative Parties, who will assist the children in the concoction of terrific tie-dyed t-shirts.  Mixing into this odd cooking extravaganza will be scrumptious “Crepe Day,” with Chef Doris Roulx.  Chef Roulx will prepare delectable French pancakes with each member, resulting in a taste bud pleasing morning snack!  Whether creating a cauldron of t-shirts or griddling up yummy crepes, we will certainly be earning our cooking degrees in “Cathy’s Cooking 101” class!

Week # 8  Divine Duct Tape Designs

August 17, 2009-August 20, 2009

Doesn’t everyone love duct tape?  Well, maybe not...but after participating in this creative duct-tape designing course, we are sure that each member will enjoy the sticky stuff!  Staff will be teaching the children how to construct lunch/beach bags, wallets and rings out of plain old duct tape!  These 4 days will be full of terrific taping fun!  Sticky, but loads of fun!
